Charities in the United Kingdom
The work of charities in the United Kingdom is vital for the well being of millions of people across the globe.
Just about every part of humanity is affected by at least one charity and many people are committed to showing their love for each other by giving of them selves either in time spent helping or by donating to a worthy cause.
In 2006 there where about 164,195 general charities in the United Kingdom. This does not include organisations such as Co-operatives, Trade Unions and the many faith groups.

The Charity Commission registers and regulates charities in England and Wales.
We offer them advice and provide a wide range of services and guidance to help them run as effectively as possible. We also keep the online Register of Charities, which provides information about each of the thousands of registered charities in England and Wales.
