With the credit crunch beginning to bite many of us will have to rethink what we are going to do about holidays this year.

So here are some ideas for a great day out to beat the credit blues.

It would be a wise idea to check with each place that they are open on the day you want to visit plus the weather if outdoors. Although Britain is a small island there are so many good and interesting places to see and experience and something for all age groups, you can enjoy a wonderful day out.

Places like Blashford Lakes which is a nature reserve or the Basingstoke Canal which has been fully restored or Popham Airfield where you can try your hand at flying a small aircraft, or how about the Peak District or maybe a castle or peaceful gardens, a walk along a canal tow path, or a day on a beach soaking up the sun and many more hundreds of different places all over Britain for every type of person to enjoy.

Some local Places to visit

If you do not wish to travel too far try The New Forest Wildlife Park which covers twenty-five scenic acres of ancient woodland. It is set within the New Forest Heritage area and was designated a National Park in 2005.

Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre is located on the south east corner of Southampton Common and provides information about Southampton’s abundant wildlife and how Southampton City Council manages open spaces in order to protect and increase biodiversity. The centre has purpose built interactive displays that help you discover more about Southampton Common and the creatures and plants that make it their home.

Southampton Maritime Museum is housed at The Wool House, a medieval warehouse in Southampton. The museum documents the maritime heritage of Southampton and the Solent area, its history as a base for ocean liners and in particular its connections to RMS Titanic. Its mission statement is: "To collect, preserve, display and interpret artefacts and information to reflect the widest range of history of the city and its people; to promote enjoyment, awareness of the engagement with Southampton's heritage, via the presentation of the life of the city and its people."

The Gurkha Museum at Winchester tells the moving and unique story of Gurkha service to the British Crown and its people for nearly 200 years. Gurkha graves are spread across the face of the earth in nearly every country in which Britain has fought – silent testament to Gurkha loyalty and courage. At the Gurkha Museum you will find a fitting tribute to the ‘bravest of the brave most generous of the generous...’ As the Gurkha motto tells....
