An often heard comment from visitors to the Atwell Wilson Motor Museum, Calne in Wiltshire is “I remember having one of those” when pointing to one of the many cars or motorcycles on display which represent the development of the motor industry from 1924-1994.

Many visitors to this friendly family Museum can personally identify with cars from the collection, which is not surprising as the museum is considered to have one of the best historical collections in the UK.

The museum started life with a 1937 Buick Albermarle - the personal property of Richard Atwell. The collection grew steadily and the Museum came into being in 1989 then, in 1996, a Charitable Trust was formed to run the Museum.

The displays vary from a number of everyday classics to historic cars and lorries. Amongst these are a 1934 Alvis Speed 20, 1924 3-litre Bentley and a 1953 Allard Palm Beach. Also on display is an interesting selection of rare motorcycles, including legendary names like Brough, BSA, HRD and Indian.

Why not pay a visit and bring back those memories of cars you have owned in the past.

You’ll find the Museum in Stockley Lane, Calne, Wiltshire and it’s open everyday, except Friday, from 11am to 5pm. The Museum has easy access and toilet facilities for the disabled. Coach parties and groups are most welcome and special group discounts are available. Light refreshments in their Tea Room can also be provided by prior arrangement.

The Museum is located in a very beautiful part of Wiltshire, within easy reach of the many ancient attractions of this rural part of old England. The Museum also gives direct access to the beautiful Water meadows walk, dating from the 17th century.

The collection itself is spread across three buildings and consists of approximately 90 vehicles.

They are a family friendly museum and will always do their utmost to make your visit enjoyable, but please note that some of the vehicles are on loan and may change at any time.
