General Aviation
This part of the chandlersford.org.uk website is about General Aviation, by that I mean small and the many different types of flying machines from hot air balloons to small jets and everything in between.
General Aviation activities encompass private flying, aerial work and recreational flying involving all types of aircraft. In the United Kingdom the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is responsible for the oversight of all flying activity
There are microlights, sailplanes (gliders), single engined or multi engined aircraft, those that take off from water (amphibious), those that you strap a motor to your back and are sucked into the air dangling from a bit of cloth known as paragliders.
We have stories about pilots and friends who share their experiences about their own adventures like Two Hours to Tours and Coventry to Cascais.
The Met Office Aviation Services provide vital information for all pilots and GA as up to date weather is required to fly safely.
There are a number of monthly magazines devoted to General Aviation such as Today's Pilot, Flyer and Pilot.
AOPA
The following paragraph is from their website about the organisation.
AOPA UK is part of the largest association of pilots in the world, with over 400,000 members in over 50 countries. AOPA exists to serve the interests of its members as aircraft owners and pilots, and to promote the economy, safety, utility, and popularity of flight in general aviation aircraft. Whatever you fly AOPA is for you because it works for ALL aircraft owners and pilots. We campaign for better regulation within the UK and Europe rather than the specialist needs of particular sections of aviation. In that way we complement the work of representative organisations dealing with particular interests, such as gliding, homebuilts, vintage, warbirds, microlights, instrument rated pilots, business flying, instruction and the plethora of other methods of getting into the air.
If you are interested in aviation and would like to share with others your story, you are invited to write an article for chandlersford.org.uk. Please remember to include your digital photographs (jpeg format please).
