An area at the Hiltingbury Recreation Ground that was unuseable for sporting activities due to the uneven ground has been transformed into a wild flower meadow by Eastleigh Borough Council’s Direct Services Unit.
Along a strip of grassland by the western woodland edge was rotovated and sown with a wild flower seed mix during February 2006. Visitors have enjoyed the results including views of insects such as butterflies, bumblebees and dragonflies on an array of wildflowers including cornflower, corn marigold and yarrow.
Hiltingbury Extravaganza is held every year at the Recreation Ground and this year it is on Sunday 19th September 2010 - 10.00 to 5.00pm.
