The Point - Eastleigh

Over the last few years The Point has positioned itself as an international hub for the development of artists.

In 2009 we opened the first UK fully residential Creation Space - a state of the art light filled rehearsal studio with accommodation attached, allowing artists 24 hours access to the rehearsal room. Four Bedrooms can house up to 10 artists with the ground floor bedroom being fully accessible. Artists who have created work with us since we opened the new facility in November include: Akram Khan, Lone Twin and The Balletboyz.

The programme of professional work we present combines work that has been created in our new facility with high quality dance, theatre, film and light entertainment. We specialise in programming risk-taking contemporary performance and contemporary dance.  In 2009/10 we will have presented premieres by Candoco Dance Company, Akram Khan and Gregory Marqoma amongst others.

Our multi-arts Creative Learning programme involves thousands of members of the community each year. Throughout this programme we aim to connect the work we do with artists at The Point with community participants, enabling a regular dialogue and participatory angle to the programme.

We also run an Associate Artists Scheme which allows us to support 8 emerging companies; giving them business and artistic mentorship, office, rehearsal and performance space.

Alongside this we run a professional development programme for artists in the region and in the past 6 months have delivered workshops by Freddie Opoku Addaie, Wendy Houstoun, Niamh Dowling and Marcin Rudy.

Owned and managed by Eastleigh Borough Council, The Point was established in 1996 with one of the first lottery grants and has always had a strong emphasis on innovation, cultural pluralism and creative challenge. Since January 2010 The Point has been led by Director, Sarah Brigham.
